The Sailfin Molly Velifera is one of the most majestic and impressive livebearing fish in the aquarium hobby. Famous for its enormous, sail-like dorsal fin that can reach up to the height of its body, this species offers a striking appearance that immediately becomes a focal point in any aquarium. Originating from Mexico and Central America, the Sailfin Molly is a hardy, active, and peaceful fish that adds both beauty and functionality to freshwater setups.
Males develop particularly large dorsal fins and display vibrant metallic blue, green, and orange coloration when in peak condition. They are excellent algae eaters, helping to keep your tank clean by consuming soft algae and biofilm. Sailfin Mollies are highly active swimmers and prefer to live in groups. They thrive in slightly brackish or hard alkaline water, making them ideal for community tanks with other livebearers such as Guppies and Platys.
